Hi, I’m Vicki, the heart behind Michigan Roots Events.
For me, creativity has always been about more than making something beautiful. It’s about getting out of the house, trying something new, laughing with the people around you, and giving yourself a few hours away from everyday life.
After years of working with local makers, artists, and our community through Michigan Roots, I discovered that one of my favorite things was bringing people together through classes and creative experiences. That’s where Michigan Roots Events really found its purpose.
I love coming up with new class ideas, creating projects, and working alongside our talented instructors to offer experiences for all skill levels. You don’t have to consider yourself “crafty” to join us. Some of my favorite moments are watching someone walk in saying, “I’m not creative at all,” and leave completely surprised by what they made.
My goal is simple: create a welcoming, no-pressure place where people can learn, connect, laugh, and try something new.
So grab a friend, bring your family, or come by yourself—you’ll fit right in.
I can’t wait to create with you.
— Vicki

“Art has the power to heal. I’ve learned this firsthand through personal experience, as an artist and art therapist.”
Art therapy combines art media and the creative process to help individuals explore feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior, reduce anxiety, develop social skills, and increase self-esteem.
As an art educator, Kayla’s goal goes beyond simply teaching students how to create. She strives to provide the tools, techniques, and encouragement needed to discover their own creative voices.
Through self-reflection, exploration of different art mediums, and hands-on learning, Kayla hopes to foster creativity, confidence, personal growth, and a lifelong appreciation for artistic expression.
